difference between bash points/attack reports?

I presumed the bash points were linked to how many troops you kill - if you have a failed offense report, it hides the defense losses - but can these not be determined by the bash points, or am I missing something?

Bash points are not calculated at a 1:1 ratio between units.
They are calculated from how many provision they take.

You will not be able to pin point exactly the amount of troops you were against, but you could make speculations to which units most likely were in the defence.
